Michigan State University operates one of the largest residence hall systems in the nation. A leader in academic living-learning programs, several halls host residence-based academic programs. Click here for more information on MSU's living-learning communities. 

On-campus housing is available for both undergraduate and graduate students. University apartments are available; facilities are also available within the residence halls for person with disabilties.


Some residence halls offer suite-style rooms; others have the more traditional community-style bathrooms. Quiet floors, non-smoking rooms/floors, and alcohol-free rooms/floors are offered. Residence halls offer complimentary laundry facilities, technology rooms, study rooms, convenience stores, and computer labs. Many have additional facilities. Within the residence hall room, each student is provided with (at minimum):

A bed, desk, and chair
Closet space 
Linen service (sheets and towels only) 
An Ethernet connection (free internet access)
A cable TV connection (52 channels)
A phone jack with free local phone service, caller ID, and voice mail

Students who have submitted their Advanced Enrollment Deposit (AED) and Housing Contract by May 1 will be able to select their room by logging in at the liveon.msu.edu website.  Roommate preferences can be requested.  Visit MSU Live On for updates and changes concerning your housing assignment.

You can use Facebook to find a roommate.  Michigan State University offers RoomSync, a Facebook-based application that lets students find their own roommate matches.  Visit the MSU Live On website to learn more.
